AEO and LLMO

Answer engine and LLM optimization for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude

Answer engine and LLM optimization is the work of preparing your content so that large language models, the technology behind ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude, can understand it and use it when writing answers. Kraffic.ai measures how each assistant answers your buyer prompts and recommends changes tied to the prompts where you are missing.

Prompts this page answers

  • “answer engine optimization services”
  • “LLM optimization agency”
  • “AEO agency USA”
  • “optimize website for ChatGPT”
  • “how to rank in Gemini answers”
  • “What do I need to change on my website so that ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can use it as a source when answering customer questions?”
  • “Is answer engine optimization the same thing as generative engine optimization, and which one does my business need?”
  • “Looking for a company that optimizes for several LLMs at once and reports results for each assistant separately.”

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Per-assistant results

Whether your brand is named for each tracked prompt on ChatGPT, on Google Gemini and on Claude, shown side by side.

  • Answer gaps

The prompts where an assistant answers without naming you, with the saved answer so you can see what it said instead.

  • Recommendations per prompt

Changes to content and structure, each linked to the prompts it is meant to affect.

  • Content drafts

Draft answers and page sections written only from the business facts you confirmed.

  • Scan-over-scan comparison

Which prompts were won or lost on each assistant since the previous scan.

What is answer engine optimization?

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is making your content suitable for systems that reply with a direct answer instead of a list of links. LLM optimization (sometimes written LLMO) is the same idea applied specifically to large language models such as those behind ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude.

In practice the terms AEO, LLMO and GEO are used for closely related work. The shared goal is that when a buyer asks a question, the assistant has accurate, clearly worded information about your brand to draw on.

How do AI assistants decide what to say?

AI assistants generate answers from two sources: what the model learned during training and, in some modes, pages it retrieves through live web search. Which source is used depends on the assistant, the product settings and the question.

The exact selection methods are not published and they change. This is why Kraffic measures the output directly, by running prompts and reading the answers, instead of assuming how any one assistant works.

Where an AI answer can come from
SourceWhat it isWhat this means for your content
Training dataText the model learned from before its knowledge cutoffChanges show up only after the model maker updates the model
Live web searchPages retrieved at the time of the question, in modes that support itClear, crawlable, current pages can be read and cited sooner
The prompt itselfContext the user typedWording changes which brands fit the answer

What makes content easy for an LLM to use?

Content is easy for an LLM to use when each passage answers one question clearly and can stand on its own. Models work with passages of text, so a paragraph that states the answer first and defines its terms is easier to quote than one that depends on the rest of the page.

  • Headings phrased as the question a buyer asks
  • The answer in the first sentence, detail after it
  • Specific facts: what you offer, for whom, where, and how it differs
  • Consistent names for products and services across pages
  • Text in the page itself, not only inside images or scripts
  • Structured data that states the same facts in machine-readable form

Do ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude need different optimization?

The fundamentals are the same for all three, but results differ, so they should be measured separately. A brand can be named regularly by one assistant and rarely by another, because each was trained on different data and retrieves web pages in its own way.

Kraffic runs every tracked prompt on Claude, ChatGPT and Google Gemini and reports each one separately. That shows where the gap is before any work is planned.

How do you measure whether it worked?

It is measured by re-running the same prompts and comparing the answers. Kraffic reports the Visibility Score per assistant and the prompts won or lost since the previous scan. AI answers vary between runs, so a mention cannot be guaranteed; the trend over several scans is what counts.

Process

How the work is done, step by step

  1. Confirm facts and prompts

Kraffic reads your website, you confirm the business facts, approve competitors and settle the tracked prompt list.

  2. Scan each assistant

Prompts are run on Claude, ChatGPT and Google Gemini, at most once a day, and every answer is saved.

  3. Identify answer gaps

You see, per assistant, the prompts where competitors are named and you are not.

  4. Rewrite and structure

Recommendations and content drafts based on your confirmed facts address the prompts with gaps.

  5. Compare scans

Later scans show which prompts changed on which assistant.

FAQ

Questions about Answer Engine & LLM Optimization

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

Answer engine optimization (AEO) focuses on being the source of a direct answer, a term that predates AI chat and was also used for featured snippets and voice search. Generative engine optimization (GEO) focuses on being named in answers written by AI assistants. Today the two overlap heavily, and most providers, including Kraffic.ai, treat them as one body of work.

What is LLM optimization?

LLM optimization is preparing content so that large language models can interpret it and use it accurately. A large language model is the AI system that generates text in assistants such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude. The work involves clear, self-contained passages, consistent facts and structure that machines can read.

Can I optimize my website for ChatGPT specifically?

You can make your site clear, crawlable and factual, which helps any assistant that reads it, but there is no setting that makes ChatGPT name a brand. ChatGPT answers from training data and, in some modes, from web search. The practical approach is to measure its answers to your prompts and improve the content relevant to those prompts.

How quickly do AI assistants pick up website changes?

It varies. When an assistant uses live web search, updated pages can be read once they are crawled and indexed. Answers that rely on training data change only when the model maker releases an updated model, on a schedule outside your control. Kraffic.ai does not promise a timeline and reports changes as they appear in scans.

Does blocking AI crawlers affect my visibility in AI answers?

It can. If your robots.txt file blocks the crawlers an AI company uses, that company may be unable to read your pages for search or training, depending on which crawler is blocked. Each AI company documents its own crawlers and what they are used for, so the effect differs by assistant. It is worth checking your settings deliberately.
