You vs competitors

Competitor AI benchmarking: your share of voice in AI answers

Competitor AI benchmarking compares how often AI assistants name your brand against how often they name your competitors, on the same set of buyer prompts. Kraffic.ai finds competitors, lets you approve which ones count, and reports your rank, share of voice and the prompts won or lost on ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude.

Prompts this page answers

  • “competitor analysis for AI search”
  • “AI share of voice tool”
  • “benchmark brand in ChatGPT answers”
  • “compare AI visibility with competitors”
  • “How do I measure how often AI assistants recommend my competitors compared with my own brand for the same questions?”
  • “I need a share of voice report for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude that only includes the competitors I actually compete with.”
  • “Which of my competitors is winning the most AI recommendations in my category, and on which prompts?”

What is competitor AI benchmarking?

Competitor AI benchmarking is measuring your presence in AI answers relative to named rivals. Your own Visibility Score says how often you appear; benchmarking says whether that is more or less than the companies buyers compare you with.

The comparison is only fair when every brand is measured on the same prompts, on the same assistants, in the same scan. That is how Kraffic runs it.

Why do you approve the competitors?

You approve competitors because an automatic list can include companies you do not really compete with. Kraffic finds candidate competitors from your site and market, and you decide which ones count.

This keeps rank and share of voice meaningful. A benchmark against a marketplace, a publisher or a company in a different segment would distort the numbers.

What do rank and share of voice mean?

Rank is your position among approved competitors, ordered by how often each brand is named. Share of voice is the proportion of those mentions that belong to each brand.

What can you learn from a competitor benchmark?

A benchmark shows where a competitor is named and you are not, which is the most direct list of opportunities. Reading the saved answer shows how the assistant described that competitor and which websites it cited.

  • Prompts a competitor wins on one assistant but not on others
  • Types of prompt where you are consistently absent, such as comparisons
  • Sources that are cited when competitors are named
  • Changes after a competitor or you publish new content

How often should the benchmark be updated?

Update it as often as you need to see movement. Kraffic runs tracked prompts at most once a day and compares each scan with the previous one. Because AI answers vary between runs, small swings in a single scan are normal; a consistent change over several scans is the signal to act on.

Process

How the work is done, step by step

  1. Find and approve competitors

Kraffic reads your site and finds competitors. You approve the ones that count.

  2. Fix the prompt list

Discovered prompts and your own, typed in or uploaded as a CSV, form the common test for every brand.

  3. Scan

Each prompt is run on Claude, ChatGPT and Google Gemini and every answer is saved.

  4. Compare

You see your rank and share of voice across the assistants, and prompt-by-prompt results for each assistant.

  5. Act and re-scan

Recommendations target the prompts you are losing, and later scans show what was won or lost.

FAQ

Questions about Competitor AI Benchmarking

What is share of voice in AI search?

Share of voice in AI search is the proportion of brand mentions in AI answers that belong to your brand, compared with your competitors. It is measured across a fixed set of prompts on assistants such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Claude. Kraffic.ai calculates it using only the competitors you approved.

How does Kraffic.ai decide who my competitors are?

Kraffic.ai reads your website, records what you offer and finds companies that appear to compete with you. It does not treat that list as final. You approve which competitors count, and only approved competitors are used for rank and share of voice. You stay in control of what the benchmark compares.

Can I see the exact answer where a competitor was named?

Yes. Every tracked answer is saved, and each number in the platform can be traced to the answer behind it. You can open the response from Claude, ChatGPT or Google Gemini for a given prompt and read how the assistant described each brand and which websites it named.

Why is my competitor named on one assistant but not another?

The assistants are built by different companies, trained on different data and retrieve web pages in different ways, so they often give different answers to the same prompt. This is why results are reported per assistant. A gap on one assistant only can point to a specific source or type of content.

Does benchmarking show why a competitor is ahead?

It shows evidence, not a certain cause. You can see the prompts a competitor wins, the wording of the answers and the websites cited. Those point to likely reasons, such as clearer content or stronger third-party coverage. Assistants do not disclose their reasoning, so conclusions should be tested by making changes and re-scanning.
